Happy Father’s Day to everyone!! 

This fabulous Edwardian sailboat brooch is made around 1900, when sporting jewelry was in fashion.

Various shapes of diamonds are carefully selected and meticulously set to represent sails and a body of this luxurious little ship. You  can even see a tiny ladder beside a center mast

I particularly love this piece because whenever I see it, I remember my late father who used to make ship models in his spare time. 

今日は父の日。

だから、というわけではないのですが帆船模型作りが

趣味だった父のことを想い出させてくれる

エドワーディアンのヨットのブローチを

ふと手に取ってしまいました。

船体と帆の部分を様々なファンシーシェイプの

ダイヤモンドで象り、細かなプラチナのミル打ちの

ラインで輪郭を描いた何とも優雅なヨット。

五円玉の中にすっぽりと収まってしまう世界の中に

マストの横の梯子まで忠実に再現しています。

このブローチが作られたTurn of the century

 (19世紀から20世紀にかけての世紀の変わり目）の

時代には乗馬や狩猟、テニスなどのスポーツを

モチーフにしたジュエリーが貴族の間で

大流行しました。

柔らかなベージュ色の麻のスーツにパナマ帽を

合わせた洒落者の紳士の姿が浮かんでくるような

初夏のジュエリーです。

Gift from the Sea

It's already hitting 86 degrees Fahrenheit in Tokyo today! I d' like to share this edwardian stunner with you to cool down a bit.

錦玉羹のようにひんやりと涼やかな質感の

アクアマリンをこの時代特有のエレガントな

透かし細工で海面にたゆたう泡沫を象ったような

台座に嵌めこみ、まろやかなシルバー色の

ナチュラルパールをあしらったデザインは

まさに海からの贈り物のようです。

Baby Blue Eyes

ひたち海浜公園のみはらしの丘に広がるネモフィラのお花畑。

「インシグニスブルー」(Nemophila menziesii 'Insignis blue')

約450万本もの花から成る空色の絨毯が一面に連なる様は


ただひたすら圧巻です。

その可憐な姿と「色から「ベイビー・ブルー・アイズ」

赤ちゃんの青い瞳　(Baby-blue-eyes)

とも呼ばれるネモフィラ。

その名前はギリシア語で『小さな森を愛する』を

意味し、原種が茂みの中の明るい日だまりに自生することに

由来します。

"ネモフィラ”と口に乗せるだけで唇がほころんでしまうような

何とも愛らしい音感と共に、幼い日に目にした

19世紀後半のヴィクトリア調の絵本に描かれた青い目の

森の妖精のイメージがまぶたの裏にふっと

浮かんでは消えていき、遠い記憶と現在が交錯する

不思議な邂逅を味わいました。

こちらはBaby-blue-eyesという言葉がぴったりな可憐な風情の

エドワーディアンのリング。

サファイアとダイヤモンドで象られたちいさな青い花に

きゅんとしてしまうのは私だけではないと思います。

お花モチーフのリングは数あれど、このように極小のカボション

サファイアを用いた凝った細工のリングは中々ありません。

A sweet and lovely ‘Baby-blue-eyes’ ring centering on a glittering millegrain-set diamond encircled by tiny cabochon sapphire petals. The mounting is meticulously rendered in platinum. This adorable Edwardian petit ring just reminds me of my short trip to Hitachi Kaihin Koen, where I was overwhelmed by a view of  fields of  Nemophila(Baby-blue-eyes) flowers. Must go spot if you are seeking for a heaven on the earth!

Edwardian Engagement Ring

Elegant Edwardian engagement ring made in platinum and centered with an approximate 0.5 carat old mine-cut diamond. The mounting is ornamented with Fleur de lis motifs accented with rose-cut diamonds and elaborate millegraining. 
You will never get tired of looking into details of this Edwardian beauty...  Circa 1910s.
